Pick a Linux, Any Linux!

• Ubuntu Features:

  • Free and Open Source
  • New long term support (LTS) version every 2 years; good for 5 years
  • Easy to use, robust, scripted O/S upgrade path - in-place upgrades
  • Stays fairly current on included components

• Red Hat Enterprise License (RHEL) Features:

  • Commercial, but Georgia Tech has campus license
  • LTS versions tend to be good for up to ten years, but harder to upgrade
  • Components do not stay as up-to-date, but old component versions get security patches

• Other variants can be used; your mileage may vary
